What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator Apprentice with the ability to perform self-directed equipment manufacturing, integration and optimization tasks.  Apprentices work directly with members of the department to progressively develop the skills and capabilities necessary of completing the academic and practical requirements of the trade. Key responsibilities also include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, internal systems building and process development. The successful candidate will be a member of a highly motivated, dynamic, multi-disciplined team, that together will design and develop world-class automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team structured environment to manufacture and assemble custom automation solutions
  • Develop and perform all Tool room related tasks including machining, turning, grinding, measuring, fitting and assembly
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations
  • Evaluate design intended fit and function, scrutinizing tolerances and manufacturing efficiencies
  • Observe devises in operation, locate root cause problems, and develop solutions both short and long term
  • Perform machine adjustments and improvements as required
  • Follow job schedules and track purchased components
  • Provide assistance to other departments as directed by the supervisor
  • Contribute in the cleaning, organizing and maintenance of all areas of the plant
  • Maintain and track shop inventory levels
  • Respond to urgent tasks such as running errands, deliveries or providing production support
  • React to emergency and short lead customer requirements which may include working overtime or after regular working hours
  • Travel to customer site for installation and/or service
  • Track and record time sheets
  • Track and record all expenses such as job costs and travel
  • Ensure that all activities are performed with highest ethical standards and in compliance with RAMP Inc business policies
  • Adhere to both internal and customer site health and safety rules and procedures

Qualifications:

  • OSSD or equivalent
  • Completed or current enrollment in a Toolmaker, Mechanical technician or related post-secondary program is an asset
  • Must have good people skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Some form of post graduate training in an area of machining and/or machine repair
  • Capable of blueprint reading with an emphasis on understanding GT&D.
  • Good mechanical aptitude in troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Should have some computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must be flexible with working hours and have reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel internationally (USA and Abroad) as well as customer sites to support installation and service
  • MIG and TIG welding experience is an asset
